e36 climate control problem

I have a 98 323 Is, and the control unit for the fan is busted. The fan has a mind of its own, and seems to work best when it's cold outside. It's not the common capacitor fault in the actual unit (where the display shuts off, A/C is intermitten etc.) Its not that, I already tried it and replaced the capacitor but its still busted
I can adjust everything on the control, but it's the fan speed thats not working correctly.
Wondering if anyone has run into this problem before.
