Lost the belt on the highway, no indications that the motor locked up.

Is it worth opening this up or trying a belt swap? or is it new motor time...

Thanks-Mike

Mike,
My teeth were stripped off my timing belt about two weeks ago while driving about 20 MPH in my housing development. I thought that just maybe I got away with not tweaking the valves and could get away with just installing a new belt. I took the head off to see. My first indication was removing the valve cover and saw that my lifters were down away from the cams on the exhaust side. This was a tell tale sign. Depending on how bad your pistons slapped the valves will determine whether there was bottom end damage. I got lucky and the only thing that was bad was the valves, all 20 of them. You can pretty much guarantee you have valve damage. I got my head back yesterday and will install it today. I can send you pictures of all my stuff if you like. Sorry you're in the same club.

addndmwithout doing it the hard way= removing motor taking a look at bearings or putting the motor together and seeing what happens?)

I turned it over by hand and watched and listened to the pistons.
