I have got a 2000 vw golf gls 2.0l manual.  I was curious what to do to the car to increase preformance but still keep fuel mileage for a reasonable price. also I wanted to know what i should add to the car first.  Any help is apreciated, thanks.  

I gained a lot of power with a chip on my S4, cost $600.  So far that's all I've done.  An intake and exhaust are good basic starting places as they both help your car breathe and should maintain your mileage as well.  Was told the chip allows the car to run "more efficiently" and it's had no negative impact on fuel mileage (surprisingly)unless you romp on it all the time of course.  Hope this helps
