Timing belt breaks at 60,000 miles?

I drive a 05 GTI 1.8T and it's unheard of for a timing belt to break that soon but mine did. Took out 12 valves damaged a piston and almost took out the bottom end but the guys at USP Motorsport saved it. (Thanks Chris) I don't have 10 grand for a new motor. What a costly mishap none the less

I used to be a hyundai tech. They had the same problem, at 60k, like clock-work they would shred, loose teeth, and break.
