i have a vr6 motor, if i custom fabbed a ram air intake would i gain any horsepower? if not wats the best intake system to use?

Ram air will work, but only at speeds in excess of 120mph. Actually, I think it's higher, but I don't remember what the article said at the moment. Ram air kits on any vehicle that is not a track/strip racer is primarily just for show. Some HP and torque gains can be had by porting & polishing your intake, using a free-flowing air filter (along the lines of a K&N), and using a polished/smooth intake tube.

Are there any upgrades to the VR6 such as turbo or headers, supercharger that are recommended.

A ram air system will work at any speed due to the fact that the air out side is cooler then the air under the hood. The colder the air the more air molecules the more fuel the more power.
