I have a 2000 Jetta 2.0. Just the other day my temp light came on and I had to put coolant in. Now today the same thing happened. I put more coolant in. I looked around at the bottom of my engine and coolant was everywhere. Is it a head gasket? maybe a hose came off...should I keep driving it or just let it sit till I get it fixed? Could I do it myself if it is a head gasket? It's not over heating but it gets hot fast.

This is one you may have to stand on your head to find. Could be a head gasket, hose, intake gasket, thermostat housing, etc. I'd let it sit (if you can) until you get it fixed. If it's getting really hot, there is the off-chance that it could warp your head!
Start by trying to find the highest place it's not wet and go from there. If any coolant got into your drive belt, then this won't be easy. One thing that could help is to fill your radiator and see if there's anything leaking out anywhere. If not, then have a friend crank the engine to see if you can spot where it's getting pumped out. Also check your oil to see if there is any coolant in there -- you'll see some gooey white stuff. If it's in there then check your radiator/overflow and see if there are any globs of oil floating around. If you have either of these symptoms then it's likely a head or intake gasket.
A head gasket is more time-consuming than difficult, _IF_ you have the proper tools and manual, but not impossible. Just remember to lock your cam & crank down before you disassemble the timing set.

I found the leak yesterday...it's coming from a plastic tube off the radiator hose. The is a part of it that mounts to the side of the engine with 2 bolts and nuts. I don't know what the name of the part is. I've been putting water in everytime I go anywhere until I get it fixed. My neighbor had a 98 Jetta and he told me he had the same problem, not as bad though, and that's what he's been doing. As long as it's not the winter. But I'll probably find out what the part is then go to the junk yard and yank one off a car there. Thanks for the feedback. One more thing..timing belts? how often do they have to be replaced? every 100,000? thanks again Mike

Usually 60-100K, depending on the engine & year manufactured, if it has been replaced before & whether it was a stock-type belt or extended life belt. Make sure you replace the rollers too!
