I have a 99 (11/98) Jetta with 2.0 and Automatic trans. The trans is going bad. Does anyone out there have any info on Auto to 5 or 6 spd conversion? Some things I'll need are obvious. It's the tricky stuff (computer, etc.) I need info on. Any help/info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Talk to Aaron at www.boraparts.com. He's got kits to do an install for either the 5 or 6-speed, and sells the trannys as well. Here's a link to a how-to on the swap as well:  http://www.instructables.com/id/VW_Beetle_Golf_Jetta_Automatic_to_5_Speed_Swap/

It might be specific to a TDI-powered car, but the basics are still the same.  Good luck!

i've done this swap over five times. this  Saturday or Sunday i will be converting a 2002 auto s4 to a 6spd. at the same time i will be installing atp gt28. this will take me 2 to 3 days at most. if you live in NY and want to see how it's done, let me know, if not good luck.
