i need help i have a 2003 jetta gls 1.8t 5 speed and new to the vw scene, i jus bought an ACT modified street disk and pressure plate, which turns out u have to update the flywheel with a light weight or a stock 1990 corroda flywheel which it took me a few days to find out that... but my problem is my case is broken on my 5 speed and the shop told me it would be cheaper jus to find a used one so my first ? is were is the cheapest place to get one and 2nd ?, what 6 speed tranny out there will fit on my 03 1.8t... id rather have a 6 speed if i have to get a tranny... all the info will help

It depends on what you want to do with the car. Any of the MKIV GLI 6speeds will fit right up but with some moding to the shift linkage, but... most tuners perfer the 5speed for racing or general spirited driving because there is less shifting and the ratios are further apart alowing longer rev outs making a drag race margin better over the 6. Also if you plan on building up your motor with lots of power or ever mild power the 5speed handles it better where the 6speeds first gear is nearly useless, its just too short. The cheapest place to get one is unfortunatly the junk yards. Find one with rear end damage and hopfully the tranny will be ok. Then check it over well before purchase. Take it home, clean it, reseal it, and make sure the gears are in working order. Good luck!
